I was looking through my banding photos today, and I was struck by just how much I love sparrow faces. Even though these "little brown jobs" are often overlooked, they have a subtle beauty all their own. The patterns of feathers on their faces are astonishingly detailed and engaging; arresting in their understatement. As a bander, I was lucky enough to meet a number of sparrows and capture some of their beauty to share with you. Enjoy!
